Authority – Not of this Realm (part 4)

October 19, 2014

Do not fret because of evildoers; that’s the opening of Psalm 37. Most of us recognize the nature of fretting as being worried about something we have no direct control over.  A trip through the dictionary will reveal that there are physical meanings to the word that give more insight to the insidious nature of being vexed over the uncontrollable.  You will find a sense of cutting a groove through chaffing or wear, corrosion, or even agitation.  Hence, properly understood, don’t fret.  It will corrode your sense of well-being and wear you down.

As the Psalm spoke to me today about evildoers, I found my thoughts going to the masterminds in government and finance. These are men whose sphere of evil influence encompasses us all, in that they are convinced of their right to impose their twisted ideals on the rest of us.  That these men occupy my thoughts at all reveals that I have not yet successfully given these worries to the Almighty.  Look at the passage closely.  His faithfulness to uphold those who are His own is the very core of this passage.

It is the Heart of God to uphold those who love Him. If we draw close in a relationship with Him, the machinations of evildoers pales in the distance.  As I have asked Him about the evildoers, He has reminded me that they are empty and lost.  Having rejected help by His Heavenly power, they are rudderless derelicts driven by an evil wind.  I pray for them, that some glimmer of truth might dawn to turn them from their self-imposed path of destruction.  Especially since they intend to take us with them.  How much better that they should see the light and turn from evil than to continue the drive us toward shipwreck.

I had an epiphany regarding this situation during my morning prayer-time earlier this week. John 15:5 recounts Jesus’ statement that apart from Him, we can do nothing. He was talking to those who were already followers, so this should be understood to mean “Unless you abide in Me, you can do nothing effective for the purposes of God” (good).  I see that all the effort to drive God from the public arena, under the banner of “separation of church and state”, guarantees that government can do nothing good as long as that mistaken belief holds sway.  Don’t misunderstand what I am saying here.  I am a strong believer in the constitutional tenet that government must not do anything to establish a religion or interfere with the free practice thereof.  However, if the officers of government are godless men (whatever their assertions), then the course of the nation is determined by an evil wind.

Dealing with Loved Ones

November 21, 2013

If you believe that someone you love is doing something that will bring them serious harm, what do you do? You recognize, assuming they are adult, their absolute right of self-determination. You recognize their beliefs don’t align with your own. For that matter, an ever-growing number of peoples’ opinions on the matter don’t even come close to yours. They used to. But, not these days. Your way of looking at it is deemed outdated and old fashioned at best. We’ll leave less charitable assessments for later. Still, you don’t see it ending well. You even recognize that you are looking much further down the road than they have even considered; perhaps further than your loved-one may think matters. Do you mind your own business? How convinced are you of a negative outcome? How negative to you think the outcome is likely to be? How permanent? You know from observation that the other is highly invested in the track they are on. You know from past experience that effective persuasion on the subject is mostly already countered by a made-up mind. You easily understand how convictions work; you have your own. So, what do you do?

The Land of the (used to be) Free

Always interested in what drives “top blogs” on WordPress, I note that “theobamadiary” is always in that list.  But, I find many things about that blog peculiar.  First, the clicking on the ‘about’ link for the usual author “Chipsticks” produces a dead-end “4o4 error”.  Secondly, many commenters names are oft repeated.   Maybe they have nothing else to do, so they hang out and make comments.  Still, that doesn’t reflect the commenter’s behavior on any other blog that I can find.  Then, unlike any other blog on WordPress that I examine, there are no live links for comment posters.   A blogger couldn’t follow one of these posters, if she wanted.    Those links are a major driver to get blog followers.  How does this blog get regular followers without allowing links to commenter’s blog posts?  Can I pay WordPress to keep my blog in the “Top Blogs” roll?  Perhaps most intriging of all, is the amazing photo access the blog has inside White House functions.

The commenters are unusual, in that they are the most adoring group you would ever want to meet.  Fawning, actually.  Like that old frontier folk tune, ‘never is heard a discouraging word’.  Even I, even-natured as I am, get pointedly desenting comments from time to time.

The top entry on the “blog roll” is  Is that a coincidence?  Just call me a skeptic.  Maybe the author would freely admit his position of access, if ony the “about” link wasn’t dead.  I doubt, however, that he/she would confirm my suspicion that the posts and the comments originate from the same office.

I invite any of the commenters to theobamadiary to offer any proof whatsoever that the source of that blog’s comments is not actually inside the White House, and not produced professionally using my taxpayer dollars. For that matter, I’ll take a comment from WordPress staff explaining how the normal links to commenter’s blogs are defeated.  If the writer is in the White House public relations office, aren’t you proud of your work?  Own it.

Answered Prayer for Marzieh Vafamehr!

November 14, 2011

On the ninth of last month, I posted a prayer for Iranian actress Marzieh Vafamehr, who had been sentenced to a year in prison and 90 lashes for appearing in a Australian film “My Tehran for Sale” that was “banned”.  It turns out that the prayer had been answered before the month was out ( at least the physically-observable part ), and I missed it!  I’m posting a couple of links to the news and the press release at the end.

So, if you joined me in this prayer, we have reason to rejoice! Thank you, if you did!

Thank you Lord!

What We’re Dealing With …

November 12, 2011

… in case you didn’t know.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.  John 10:10

Lord, bless Guled’s family, wherever they have fled.  Protect them and help them to see that Guled has made a choice for You that cannot be taken away from him.

A post script for my readers – leave me a comment.  Tell me how, except for scale (at the moment), radical Islam is any different than the Third Reich under Adolph Hitler.

Heroes All

Heroes All

By writewild

They came before us, heroes all,
that we might stand today
and freely answer whatever call
our Sovereign sends our way.

In muddy trenches, numbing cold,
on desert’s scorching sand;
in jungle stench of wet and mold,
they followed one command:

Defend to death the liberty
our Maker has bestowed;
defeat the wrong of tyranny,
protect the ones at home.

Ice-crusted muskets at Valley Forge,
torpedo’s high-pitched whine;
whatever weapon, whichever war,
their valor is what shined!

They quelled their fears by force of will
to hold a ragged line;
against the foe who seeks to kill
what’s good, and right, and fine.

Heroes are standing, still today,
to keep our children safe and free;
to vanquish terror’s craven sway,
in hell-holes where it meets.

The heritage of sacrifice
that is a warrior’s lot;
exemplified by God on high,
this shows the warrior’s heart!

Thank you, warriors!  God bless and keep you wherever you are serving now.  Thank you veterans for your sacrifices, we owe you a great debt as well.
(I am taking the liberty of reposting this original work in honor of our service members, past and present.)

Occupy Cedar Rapids

October 29, 2011

Of late, I have been reading Excuses Begone! by Dr. Wayne Dyer. The central premise, if I may paraphrase, is that the individual is made in the image of God, and if he/she aligns him/herself with this destiny – putting aside the typical excuse-making of human nature/ego – then God’s nature can be realized in us and we can find happiness, fulfillment and satisfaction in life as our Creator intended for us. That is, we can become individuals who are hands-down above the mundane norm of our society – practically without limits in our purpose, plans, and achievements. Fundamental Christians rail against the sort of things that Dr. Dyer writes, decrying his premises; railing that the things he says are “new age” because he dares to reference sources other than the Bible. I find, however, that most of what he writes can be easily validated through scripture, if one is willing to look. The scripture says in Romans 1:20 that God make himself known.  It is not far-fetched to think that aware individuals, such as Dr. Dyer, should actually get in step with the voice of God.   It is not my place to judge the ultimate spiritual state of Dr. Dyer. But suffice it to say that I find a great deal of practical truth in Dr. Dyer’s books. I actually find a lot of benefit in looking at things from a non-traditional viewpoint. Perhaps I might worry more about the references to eastern religions, etc, except that I have been seeking the truth for long enough now, that I don’t expect to get too far off in the weeds from examining another point of view.

Today, I spotted a few people on the corner of first avenue and Collins road in Cedar Rapids, holding signs and showing their support to the “Occupy Wall Street” protests. What I find most striking about these protesters is the basic premise of their rhetoric — espoused by their signs — is that someone else is to blame for their unhappiness. This is the very antithesis of the message that Dr. Dyer conveys in his writings. And for that matter, that the Bible conveys, to those who will look honestly at it’s message. ie: 1.The problem is due to some greedy “rich” person, rather than my own failure to take responsibility for my own destiny. 2.The solution is to get the government to give some of the “rich” person’s assets to me. There is, apparently, no recognition of the possibility of finding the value of the fulfillment in living the full life the Creator of the Universe set within our hearts. My opinion is this: The “occupy” people are wasting their time, following their egotistical assertions their problems are the “fault” of the rich. If only they would begin to seek their own place in the universe, the “rich” would become irrelevant. Who, knows? Being rich might be their own destiny, if only they could open their eyes to what they should be doing, beyond blaming and complaining. So, instead of holding signs to indicate the “rich” are evil, they could have been spending this beautiful afternoon pursuing their own intended purposes. Which do you think would have been more effective?

Keep Praying for Youcef Nadarkhani

October 11, 2011

According to the Fox News article referenced below, a new trial has been ordered for Iranian pastor Youcef Nadarkani.  Youcef has been facing the death penalty for his Christian faith.  Of course, it is unclear what this move will mean in the long run, but it is a change from the status quo.  So please, keep those prayers coming!

Prayer for Marzieh Vafamehr

October 9, 2011

Lord, please intervene on the behalf of Marzieh Vafamehr. Lead her in a direction that will let her see real truth and know your protection. Confound the plans of those who walk in the way that seems right to those in charge in Iran. Open prison doors for her, even as you did for Peter. Let her go free! I pray that this situation will open the eyes of many in that dark land. Let them see that your love is a better way than the way of fear the fear employed by corrupt men under Islam (or any other system). -writewild
